Scarred but Unscathed: Growing in Faith by Dr. Jennifer G. Sneed has been released worldwide. This 223-page work is part memoir, part interview, and all dedicated to experiences illuminating the power of faith. Through her own stories and those of 18 others, the author shares an inspiring message of hope and transformation, showing the amazing accomplishments and life altering changes that can be achieved through belief.

Scarred but Unscathed: Growing in Faith (ISBN: 9781736384541) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including barnesandnoble.com and Amazon. The paperback retails for $19.95.  Wholesale orders are available through Ingram.

From the back cover:

Jennifer grew up in church and was fine with that as her lens for the world. Life experiences forced her to question the role of faith. Is everyone born with it? Do people simply mimic the traditions of family and environment? How does one move from no faith to having faith, or from faith through others to having faith from within oneself?

Using the author’s experiences, and those of 18 others, Scarred But Unscathed gives a unique perspective on faith. The stories range from conquering dependency to surviving a life-threatening attack, from car accidents to growing through loved ones’ deaths. Some experiences require looking beyond the physical to the spiritual realm. The reader may have to dispense with pure logic and put on the lens of a voyager in uncharted territory.

The book is not to argue about the existence of God or the penultimate definition of faith. Dr. Sneed does not claim to be a Bible scholar or theologian. She writes to share how faith grew in her, to introduce a framework for the development of faith, and to provoke readers to think about whether their faith – whatever it may be – has served/is serving them. The book concludes with “Exercises to Grow Your Faith” that can be used by individuals, small groups, or Bible Study groups as a guide for self-reflection.

About the author:

Dr. Jennifer G. Sneed was born in Chicago and attended kindergarten there before her family relocated to Bloomington, Illinois. She graduated from Bloomington public schools, earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from Illinois State University, and her doctorate in Educational Administration with a specialization in Education Policy, Politics and Law from the State University of New York.

The late Rev. Leo Sneed played an instrumental part in providing a deep spiritual foundation for his daughter. Dr. Sneed identifies as a preacher’s kid who grew up in church, attending Sunday School, worship services and special programs, as well as observing members and non-members, dynamics, operation, and etiquette in the Black church. She sang in the choirs, learned to create programs, mastered the technology of the times, and had many opportunities to speak publicly. These experiences that exposed her to the fundamentals of Christian beliefs readied her for the rest of life.

Retired from the Charter Schools Institute of the State University of New York as its Senior Vice-President, Dr. Sneed lives in upstate New York with her husband, Scott, and has an adult offspring, Sloan, living in NYC. She is integrally involved in the Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany, where she sings in the Gospel Choir and chairs the Audiovisual Ministry.
