Today, Singer/Songwriter J. Scalco unveils his 7th single “Goodbye” via his California-based music label, ScareKrow Inc. which is available on all the major streaming platforms.
Produced by Daryl Lamont, the track is an apt follow-up to his previous single, “The One You Lost”, a heart-wrenching track about trying to fight for a relationship that is seemingly on its last legs. The relative optimism on “The One You Lost” is replaced by the realization that it was never worth it in “Goodbye”.
The pop hit starts off with the lines ‘I said goodbye, don’t want to see you again’, telling you exactly where J. Scalco’s head and mind were at when he and song writer Jeff Weiss of Manhattan Beach penned this song. The track is guaranteed to resonate with anyone who has been cheated on in a relationship, including just wanting the cheaters to f-off for good.
The track weaves into the past and present as our hero in the song remembers incidences that led up to him having enough. He recalls the whiskey-filled nights, the constant lies and the fake smiles. The lyrics are heartfelt and the song is as melodic as expected from J. Scalco. It is an anthem for everyone who has been cheated on and will slot in perfectly in the best Spotify playlists for the sombre mood.
Speaking about the song, J. Scalco reiterates how therapeutic it can be to finally let go of something as draining as a toxic relationship. “We have all been through it. We know how bad it can get. Sometimes you just need to put yourself first and tell anything – or anyone – that is destroying your mental health to f-off.”
This is similar to his thoughts on another of his earlier singles, “Feeling Like a God”. “These are subjects that many people are afraid to talk about and deal with in the U.S. I’ve had personal experience with these things and know it’s important not to sweep them under the table.”
